FIVE GOOD TO REASONS TO GET RIGHT WITH GOD
1. It is necessary because of our condition
Our current condition before God, as described in the Bible, is in complete contrast to His holiness. Each one of us, no matter our standing in society is a sinner. The Word of God is unequivocal; 'For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God' (Romans chapter 3 verse 23). Our condition as sinners means we are at enmity with God. Because of this God commands us to turn to Him and repent of our sinful ways; 'God...now commandeth all men everywhere to repent' (Acts chapter 17 verse 30).
2. It is wise in view of coming judgement for sin
Failure to repent of our sinful way leads to the prospect of facing God's righteous judgment. God is of 'purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity' (Habakkuk chapter 1 verse 13). Punishment is thus inescapable if sins remain unforgiven. Many choose this way but the consequences are to be taken seriously; 'it is a fearful thing to fall into that hands of the living God' (Hebrews chapter 10 verse 31). God has offered a solution and way of escape from judgement; 'for the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord' (Romans chapter 6 verse 23).
3. It is possible because of Calvary
The solution offered by God is found in His perfect Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Through His sacrificial work on the cross, by His death, burial and resurrection, He has opened up a way for the sinner to get right with God. Forgiveness of sins is found in Him alone and God will accept no other way. The Lord Jesus has completed at Calvary the great work that we could never do; God gave the very best in His Son so that those who are lost can be reached and saved, provided they come to Him. The Lord Jesus said; 'I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me' (John chapter 14 verse 6).
4. It is a time limited offer
The extent of God's love for the sinner and His desire for our salvation is thus evident in the fact that He gave the Lord Jesus to die on a cross. `The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour world' (1st John chapter 4 verse 14). God has provided the possibility of Salvation for all; He 'will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth' (1st Timothy chapter 2 verse 4). However the offer is only open on this side of eternity. Delay could mean dying without a saviour; 'behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation' (2nd Corinthians chapter 6 verse 2). God's desire is that not one single person should perish. He 'is longsuffering to us-word, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance' (2nd Peter chapter 3 verse 9).
5. It is the greatest blessing that could be known
The realisation and assurance of being saved and right with God, and thus secure foe the great eternity, is surely the greatest blessing a person can experience. It comes about by 'believing on the Lord Jesus Christ' (Acts 16 verse 31) and thus experiencing the forgiveness of sins and the salvation He brings. To miss Christ is to miss everything. The matter is urgent - get right with God and do it now!
